 Remember the Dawkins forum implosion?
« Thread Started on Oct 24, 2010, 9:21pm »

Apparently the Dawkins forum woes continue: Dawkins is now suing his former webmaster for embezzlement. http://www.courthousenews.com/2010/10/22/31283.htm

I must admit I'm a little surprised at the size of RD's operation, which can lose $375,000 before anyone notices, apparently from the sale of souvenirs such as T-shirts and coffee mugs.

What a pity for James that medieval history doesn't translate well to baseball cap slogans.

P.S. Timonen's thoughts are here: http://joshtimonen.com/post/1387207318/the-ultimate-betrayal

"My other car is a horse...which I am able to more easily mount and control thanks to innovations made in the Middle Ages"?

"Galileo shot first!" ?

"William of Ockham Razor Supply: If there is a simpler answer, we have it. " ?

"The Renaissance: Who needs Science when you have poofy sleeves and an overblown sense of self-importance" ?

How's that?

Good, but these days you need SEX appeal as well as a good slogan!

The zazzle shop for "Geoffrey Chaucer Hath a Blog" has some classics.

My favourite t-shirts there include:

"The Renaissance was, like, made up by some old dudes to make the Middle Ages look bad."

"Da Vinci is NOT a Surname!"

"I'm impossible to date. (Like Beowulf)"

and

"Chaucer: Because Shakespeare is too easy."

By the way, Josh Timonen was not being paid out of the proceeds of selling t-shirts and caps. His salary came out of donations to the Dawkins Trust, some of which were substantial sums made by single donors including Dawkins himself.

Thanks for that one, Tim!

I especially liked:

Wow

'Timonen handed over financial books that detailed his embezzlement, Dawkins says, including $500 meals, trips to Timberline Lodge in Oregon and the Malibu Beach Inn, and $314,000 in "salaries" paid to Timonen and his girlfriend -though Timonen and the Foundation agreed that the $278,000 it was aware of paying him would be his combined salary for running the store and performing his other duties. Timonen's "significantly older" girlfriend, defendant Maureen Norton, allegedly used at least $100,000 of the charity's money to upgrade her Sherman Oaks home before she put it on the market.'

I hope Dick Dawkins takes him to the cleaners!

Interesting report in the Independent:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/....le-2115632.html

Thepair became friends, with professor Dawkins writing in the preface to The Greatest Show on Earth: "This book is dedicated to Josh Timonen, with thanks to him and to the small and dedicated band who originally worked with him to set up RichardDawkins.net. The web knows Josh as an inspired site designer, but that is just the tip of an amazing iceberg. Josh's creative talent runs deep, but the image of the iceberg captures neither the versatile breadth of his contributions to our joint endeavour, nor the warm good humour with which he makes them."

Interesting that in the court documents there seems to be lots of reference to "oral" contracts but little or no reference to written contracts?
Perhaps not quite true that a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it is written on, but an inhabitant of a clear-thinking oasis would be rasther unwuise to rely on one.

I was wondering how this was going on:

http://dawkinssuestimonen.com/

One begins to see why so many cases are settled without trial. There is a battle of attrition, interspersed with incomprehensible legal documents and bills. Then everyone settles :)

Quite an amusing video about a christian user being blocked from Dawkins site because he called him a 'lousy philosopher'.

Recently there has been some better news for the Richard Dawkins Foundation: richarddawkins.net is not banned anymore in Turkey.

Congratulations to them for that.
