With language like this, it beggars belief that Carrier can still consider himself a credible scholar in any sense of the term—let alone the professional academic he aspires to be.

McGrath's review of Carrier's book on using Bayes Theorem ( Proving History - old now - 2012 - but I hadn't read it before) in historical study was actually quite complimentary (at least for the most part). I think there may have been a clever motive in that. He argued that Carrier says some good things about method, but doesn't actually use the methods he advocates. He believes if Carrier did use these methods, he could no longer be a mythicist, and was clearly trying to nudge Carrier back to the straight and narrow. His comments on Carrier's "review" of Casey's book perhaps indicate he wasn't successful in that nudge!
