Recently a scholar has been in Norwegian media on the topic of witches, of which several hundreds were executed in Norway. Among a lot of in my knowledge solid source based informations she also insists that demonology was an extremely important subject at European universities in the 15- and 1600's. "An important reason why the witch craze came about was the development of the scientific topic demonology: the study of the devil, demons and their relations to humans. This was actually a highly regarded university course at that time, she tells".
Does anyone know at which universities, if any, such a subject was taught? What was the course material, and how much was any such course appreciated? It seems a bit far fetched to me that this really was an important course at any university, however I've been in the wrong before, so open to fact based info here.
