I don't know why atheists have less children, but I know I wouldn't have them at all if I'd be one. The thought that my children will eventually die makes me incapable of having them for moral reasons. I love them so much I wouldn't have them. How can someone who beliefs in our annihilation after physical death have offspring baffles me. I can't see the logic here. Before we are born we don't exist (presumably, unless the Hindus are right). After we die, we don't exist (the atheists believe). If we are never born we never exist. But if we are born, at least we get the pleasure of existence for a while (life is pleasurable for most people most of the time). So why wouldn't an atheist give that blessing (my word, not theirs!) to their children?

How can atheists compete with this? news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110222/od_nm/us_india_familyMan has 39 wives, nearly 100 children
GUWAHATI, India (Reuters) – The more, the merrier is certainly true for Ziona Chana, a 66-year-old man in India's remote northeast who has 39 wives, 94 children and 33 grandchildren -- and wouldn't mind having more.
They all live in a four storied building with 100 rooms in a mountainous village in Mizoram state, sharing borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, media reports said.
"I once married 10 women in one year," he was quoted as saying.
He heads a local Christian religious sect, called the "Chana," which allows polygamy. Formed in June 1942, the sect believes it will soon be ruling the world with Christ and has a membership of around 400 families."

Against this, we must assume that there are another 38 blokes who can't find a wife because Mr. Chana has married most of the local female population.
