Tired "arguments", scholars who are anything but, misrepresentation of the consensus view... And the whole thing is presented as "news". One word: Yawn. What concerns me is that mythicism seems to be increasingly embraced by progressive outlets (The HuffPo and now The Raw Story) probably out of spite against fundies and "organized religion" in general. www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/08/did-jesus-exist-growing-number-of-scholars-dont-think-so/

It was a pretty misleading piece of writing. David Fitzgerald is a "scholar"? No mention of the mass of faithfully evangelical scholars, the respected scholars like Wright, Bauckham, Evans, etc who are also christians, or non-believing scholars like Casey who would have disagreed with most of what is said there? No mention of the numbers of scholars who fall into each camp? Lots of very slyly worded statements that are sort of true but sort of not. Oh well, that's the game these days I guess.

Maybe I'm going to send them a gentle, critical mail over it, though it isn't very topical any more. I suppose mailing somebody over an article that is over two months old is rather weird.
Anyway, the author, from Alternet, has something of a history treating religions (especially Abrahamic religions, and Christianity in particular) from a negative perspective. That's entirely her right, but it is a shame she let her bias take the better of her.

All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. That's what I tell myself when I'm trolling around outdated articles on the net, anyway...
