I'm not sure whether anybody still cares to hear about Dawkins, and it is not much of a surprise for anybody who has had a look at his Twitter time line in the past two years, but in this moment that moment has almost arrived. A "gator" is a supporter of GamerGate, basically a sexist conspiracy theory of Tea Party-leaning dudes (mostly) who spend too much time playing games and even more time worrying about them. If anyone wants a longer definition, I could expand on that one or you can just read some of this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamergate_controversywww.reddit.com/r/GamerGhazi/comments/2zwfnc/dawkins_edges_ever_closer_to_going_full_gator/It may not mean a lot right now any more, but I guess it could in the future be seen as a final point for the split in the New Atheist movement.

Tea Party leaning? They look like they are made up of Anarchists (what with the whole endorsement from OWS and Wikileaks) to me.

Tea Party leaning? They look like they are made up of Anarchists (what with the whole endorsement from OWS and Wikileaks) to me. There are a lot of libertarians in it, but you have to search for anarchists (in the conventional sense) with a lantern. Unless you claim on Twitter than #GamerGate is just a far-right movement, of course, then you are inundated with people who swear you are wrong and say that they are lefties. Otherwise you'd never notice, except for a few prominent harassers. The OWS account had been taken over by a troll and the nature of the Wikileaks endorsements is a bit contested (it seems like a cynical PR stunt, but it is the sort of weird conspirational stuff Wikileaks would like), but Wikileaks is anyway more or less libertarian rather than anarchist. But in its own way, GamerGate is quite diverse, consisting of (mostly conservative) well-meaning, teenage white boys, supposed 'gaming VIPs', sock puppets that use photos from Shutterstock and other stock photo sites, young conservative, again predominantly white anti-feminist women and girls, young people of colour who like feeling like the default of mainstream games and 4chan culture, an American actor and Tea Party supporter, a lesbian-hating, transphobic British homosexual tabloid journalist for Breitbart, a left-leaning lesbian harasser with a disability (who will claim that people who call her vile behaviour out are homophobic, ablist bigots), a failed Jack Black imitator, random bloggers, a libertarian philosophy professor from the neo-conservative American Enterprise Institute who claims feminism is about how all boys are biologically oppressed by a variety of pc projects including literature classes, a couple of adaptationist biology or philosophy professors who fawn over aforementioned libertarian philosophy professor, one or two very conservative prominent game developers, tin-foil hat conspiracy theorists, a derpy, Tea Party-aligned Christian lawyer and pick-up artist, 4chan/8chan trolls, the scum of Reddit, people with the troubling views that typify /pol/, Stormfronters, nazis, a lookalike of Anton LaVey who poses with his skull(s?), a former Occupy member who has turned techno-fascist, neo-confederates, (predominantly atheist) masculinists, typical pick-up artists, other anti-Semites, various other racists, an unscrupled game mag entrepreneur who has invested in an extremely misogynist pornographic RPG, people who make death and/or rape threats and a guy who made a bomb threat. Then there are groups of trolls and conspiracy theorists that do not form part of GamerGate but still try to troll it or use it as a cover. My impression is that the dominant view aligns closely with what you'd expect from Breitbart: a culture war discourse that is deadly afraid of the omnipresent clutches of Cultural Marxism TM, but that fora like 8chan and Stormfront have infused with (additional/explicit) anti-Semitism.

From what I've seen, it seems to be a mostly anarchist movement with some liberal and libertarian reps of many different elements clashing with both each other (that is to say, within the 'group') and a group of 4th wave feminists (which they have dubbed 'Aggros'...which maybe a reference to MMORPG culture). This is especially prominent due to several noted 'zines supporting the 'gators' as some sort of anarchist cause celebre (...which tells one something unflattering about the state of the modern Anarchist philosophy).
As I have observed, these 'Aggros' and these 'Gators' appear to both stand equally accused of acts of harassment and the use of racist, hateful bigots as spokespeople (several of the noted 'Aggros' include a Asian Neo Nazi, an American Feminist writer/Anti-Semite, a transexual white supremacist/game designer, and a journalist/blogger with a marked penchant for going off on anti-latino rants). There are several instances of this group of 'Aggros' making bomb threats, as well as threats of violence/rape against minority and female 'Gators'.
My impression is that they are a mixed bag and that this 'conflict' (for lack of a better term) is what my brother would term a 'Leper Bowling Shoe Throwing Contest': whoever wins, good taste loses.

Maybe you use "anarchist" in the sense of libertarian? Even then, these are people who're happy to get their news from Breitbart, Truth Revolt and InfoWars and think that The Times and the Daily Telegraph has conspired with the Guardian and Daily Kos against them. But yes, there is diversity of views. There are indeed some liberal and a few laft-wing GamerGaters Some of these examples seem to come from GamerGate and show some degrees of spin. Ian Miles Cheung has since written this, I think it is unfair to say he's a neo-Nazi. Everyone may make up one's own mind about what they think of him now, but consistency may be demanded. Jonathan McIntosh is not an anti-Semite, even if you think his criticism of the Israeli government goes too far. Not even Yiannopoulos can do better than this, in which he does not generalise about Jews. I'm not sure who the other people are supposed to be. I'm not a fan of suggesting pro and con are equally bad. Though do you have sources for the other examples of threats?
