Never really heard that one before. Reading the original page at www.fof.se/index.lasso?id=07126 (Norwegians reads Swedish rather easily, even if Swedes struggle the other way), I think this is a case of an owerblown proposition based on little evidence. A private advice from a theologian in 18th century Sweden is a bit different than e.g. a threat from the Inquisition in late 15th century Spain. If there was any fear involved it may more have been of a social scandal than anything else, if I should speculate. The angle seems like a clever way to get a new interest in Linné (as he is called in Sweden) and publicity for the researchers. All based on the well known concept of Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom. As the researcher Emil Nilsson explains himself, it all was rather far from Darwin, even if it may have cast some doubts upon the fixity of species. I am not all that sure about how Linné and others related "kinds" and "species" in their days, not to mention how they viewed the obvious changing within species (or across species as was seen with mules) through breeding of e.g. dogs and tulips into different kinds of dogs/tulips. I do have some literature on it and may get some time to check it, however not for at least a week.
