Hello folks, I'm a new member here, although I have been lurking this forum for quite some time. I'm a Christian who's deeply interested in history and philosophy. I hope to engage in some stimulating discussions here. My screenname is derived from the historian Christopher Dawson ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Dawson), whose work argued about the pivotal role of religion and especially Christianity on the course of history.

G'day neodawson, and welcome. What made you make the jump from "lurker" to member?

I was impressed with the quality of discourse here, plus also shared interests.

Welcome neodawson.
I've recently finished Christopher Dawson's Religion and the Rise of Western Civilisation. He was saying things about the importance of Catholicism back when it was deeply untrendy to do so. Well, it's still quite untrendy...
I hope you enjoy the board and become a regular poster here. Don't worry when things seem a bit quiet. One of the attractions is that we are all quite relaxed - most of the time.
Best wishes
James

Thank you James. I've read that book too, it's really good. I recently read his works The Making of Europe as well as Progress and Religion. I'd highly recommend both. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll find plenty to do here.
