It is a matter of deep historical importance. England didn't make it past the second round, and their referee still managed to lose in the final!
How many nations can manage that???!!

Blah... me being Dutch and trying to cope with the loss figured I only go to websites and forums that don't relate to anything football today. One of them is Quodlibeta... I thought. Anyway... congrats to Spain. They were the better team.

But the ref kept his cool despite a pretty savage final, and all credit to him. He can be considered to have performed better than either of the teams, IMO.

Except for the fact he mistook a corner for a goal kick after which Spain scored 1-0. Yep... still hurts.

Yes, that was a bad call, and hard to understand as the ball was clearly deflected and there were no Netherlands players within cooee. But overall, I thought he was one of the best referees I saw. My commiserations, but I agree with you that Spain was the better team overall.

I am glad the World Cup is over. Now we in Oz can concentrate on "real" football. AFL.

unkleE, you need to concentrate on a real footy team.
And yes, "Swans" is enough to put the fear of God into any opposing team. Still, Brisbane entered the AFL as the Bears and had a cuddly koala on their strip before they took over the Fitzroy Lions jumper.
