An excellent review time which made me put the book on my to read list. It is, if truth be told, quite a long list. But nonetheless, I did like the sound of this and will try to get to it sooner (ie, within years) rather than later (within decades).
Best wishes
James

Glad you are back on board Tim.
I would not mind a dollar for every time I accessed Armarium Magnum hoping to read a new post since your last one. I used the poll and look forward to the diversity of topics in the future.
By the way, will you be signing off all future reviews with "Tim O'Neill Sarcastic Bastard and Prick" in the future?

Dr Serafina Cuomo of the University of London, author of Ancient Mathematics and historian of early science and learning, has written a condemnation of the distortions of history in Alejandro AmenĂ¡bar's movie about Hypatia of Alexandria, Agora. I've reproduced her comments on my blog: Hypatia and "Agora" Redux, Again. Enjoy.

Thanks Tim, I always enjoy reading your blog and there are some parts I go back to for references. (Though changing the subject slightly, your "Stupidest thing on the internet ever" has a lot of competition! ;D )

Tim, I noticed Dr.Serafina Cuomo's comment after reading your articles on Armarium Magnum. In your great humility you neglected to mention this. Well, I must say that both your articles are excellent! Your in-depth knowledge of this historical period is truly remarkable, Mr. O'Neill. Congratulations. www.imdb.com/title/tt1186830/board/flat/179889238Very good Mr. O'Neill

Dr Cuomo originally believed there was a library in the Serapeum and said so in her interview on Melvin Bragg's show. She even said that the destruction of the library was mentioned in the accounts of the end of the Serapeum. Someone on the IMDb forum brought this up and another guy e-mailed Dr Cuomo to ask what accounts she was referring to and bring her attention to my articles. She admitted that she'd made a mistake and, judging from her post, seems to have been swayed by my arguments regarding the lack of any evidence of a library in the temple. So I'm feeling quietly pleased with myself.

This should be the final nail in the coffin of those muppets who decided you were James Hannam in disguise; and good on Dr Cuomo for coming on IMDB to clear things up (though 'In Our Time' is a very popular show and a lot of damage has probably been done).

The muppets are fighting back. See the new comment on my blog that claims heliocentrism "was well-known and adhered to by many ancient scientists".

Hi Tim, It was I who e-mailed Dr. Cuomo back in August and asked her to clarify the comments she made about the destruction of the Library on Melvyn Bragg's radio show. Then I also asked her to join the discussion at IMDb but received no reply. Glad to see her acknowledgment of the film's inaccuracies! Somene should notify that Valjean buffoon to read Dr Cuomo's excellent critique. ;D

The Muppets Redux - the latest comments claim the Inquisition tortured Giambattista Della Porta, banned his Accademia dei Segreti because it was too scientific, oppressed Tommaso Campanella for his science, ditto Cremonini and, of course, invokes Bruno.

RE: Bruno
I wonder...if Kent Hovind was killed by a Catholic, would the same people rallying to Bruno also claim that Hovind was a victim of the Church "oppressing science"?
After all, calling Hovind a "scientist" is about the same level of term stretching utilized in Bruno's case.
